About this event

HOLS is run by a small group of volunteers who have taken on more than we ever thought possible over this past year. Just imagine what we could do with more volunteers?

That’s right, it’s time for the Annual Meeting on January 26, 2022. We would LOVE to have more volunteers join the board. We are looking for energetic individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities who want to do a little good for our neighborhood. More volunteers means more activities we can lead for our community, our city!

Interested in joining our board? Get your application in by the end of the day Sunday, January 23!

Board members must be active members of the association.

Voting members of the association must be active members.

To be an active member, make sure you join/renew your annual membership to HOLS! It was because of our members committing that we were able to do so much for the neighborhood in 2021!

This is a free event but please register here to come so we can get a general headcount.

Info: Event is open to the public to learn more about HOLS and our committees starting at 6:00 pm.. You can sign up for membership at the event. Voting is restricted to active members only. Introductions and elections will start at 7:15 pm. Virtual attendance via Zoom is also going to be available. Please register above to receive that zoom link.

Kokedama 101 (co-hosted with City Grange)

A timeless and unique art form, kokedama is a centuries old Japanese garden practice that places a plant’s roots in a mud ball encased in soft green moss. It can rest on a dish or be suspended by a string. They’re remarkably simple to make, and once you get the hang of it, kokedama will become your favorite relaxing activity!

Planning & Advocacy Committee meeting: October 2019

There will be a presentation by The Community Builders regarding a proposed project at 4715 N. Western, currently a city-owned parking lot, across the street from the Western "L" plaza.

The proposed project is five stories mixed-use (commercial on the ground floor), with 42 one- and two-bedroom units. It is a mixed-income building with all units reserved for residents who earn between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income.

This is an important project for the future of the neighborhood.

This is not a public community meeting — this is a committee meeting convened in advance of the potential development going before the 47th Ward Zoning Advisory Council. After that stage, a community meeting may be called for larger public comment.

To participate in this and other HOLS committee meetings, you must be a dues-paying member. If you are not already a member, please join prior to the meeting using our website (or bring a check to the meeting).

Planning & Advocacy Committee meeting

We'll meet with a local developer to discuss the project around a proposed zoning change at 2208 W. Lawrence Ave.

From the developer, Fred Agustin:

The property is currently zoned B2-3 District, however, that re-zoning was a type 1 application whereby a specific development was tied to the rezoning.

Developer's client would like to keep the B2-3 District with a 16-unit, all-residential building. Will need to go through the zoning process again since the project is changing.
