New Business
Meeting Began with some general discussion about how the lives of the board members have changed since COVID-19, and how we are all spending our time.
1.Social Media has been quiet for most neighborhood organizations
-Few events happening
-Difficult to plan anything given the uncertainty
-City of Chicago not accepting any event applications whatsoever
In order to elicit ideas, the main elements of Heart Of Lincoln Square were announced and ideas were encouraged:
Beautification:
-“Show us your home projects”
posting for residents to share home projects they are working on
Encourage picture worth beautification projects and home upgrades
-La Grow tree planting: An organization that will plant a tree on your yard for them to then use its produce in their beer.
Feature the business with a bio and a link to have tree planted in your yard.
Encourage residents to support this business in other ways as well.
City Grange:
Online planting classes for residents to watch via our Facebook page.
Free for members, encourage them to buy from La Grange to show support
Planning and Development:
-The Western/Leland Development did not get the government tax credits
The only likely option is to reapply at a later time.
Not plausible for the project to work without these credits.
2.Some projects still moving forward in their preliminary stages
Outreach/Funding/Events
The following ideas were proposed:
-Live music shows:
Local musicians could host virtual solo concerts on a certain day and ask for donations.
Add a link for optional donations
-Featured restaurant of the week:
-Each week feature a restaurant from Lincoln Square
Small bio about the restaurant
Advertise their specials and specialties
Other Topics:
Up for a vote: The resignation of HOLS Board Member Katy: Approve
The meeting adjourned with a tentative plan to have our next meeting at 6:00pm on Wednesday, May 20th.
